I just got Fallout 3, and I am loving it (post patch). It feels right. I really feels like a continuation of Fallout 1 and 2. My fears are calmed.
I say post patch, because when I first installed it, it would shut down my PC after 5 minutes. My PC is not set to automatically reboot, and it did not reboot, it just shut off.
6.6mb patch came out the next day, and now my play is solid!
Now that I know how to play and am more comfortable with the controls, I plan to reload and try to get out of my Vault without killing nearly everyone in it. Maybe I can limit my kills to just the guards instead of punks and people who caught me pickpocketing...
Anyone else playing this? I find the baseball bat to be my favorite weapon so far. I get to play the lead role in "Falling Down".

Yeah Fallout 3 is great. I have been playing it on the X360. Its so huge it would take forever to explore all this! To bad they didn't put some sort of way to travel besides walking or fast travel from the map, like in Elder Scrolls Oblivion you could use a horse(a motorcycle would have been cool).

Their fast travel system works very similar to the one in Fallout 2 using the car.
I now can get more health from blood packs! Viva la wannabe vampires!

I'm waiting for more info before I buy this game. It looks like a first person shooter, not a loyal sequel

It's not really an FPS (otherwise I would never have bought it). You have the VATS system which is exactly like the turn based combat, but sadly your APs don't regen between rounds. I start VATS, use up my AP, then exit and swing/shoot until it regens enough APs for another head shot (I rarely go for limbs, and like to conserve ammo).
Sadly, Fallout 3 can still force my PC to shut off. The patch helped greatly, but that bug still persists at a much reduced rate.
Also lock picking and computer hacking are now mini-games. Skill points let you make the attempt, but your own skill and luck determine success.
